Cable Companies
It so happens that cable companies are currently at a particular disadvantage. Satellite TV perpetually offers its customers more value and better service. Cable TV Companies are also frantically switching on to the digital mode but the picture quality still leaves much to desire. Since the cables provided by the Cable TV Company runs through your locality, the signal is frequently degraded and your picture quality suffers as a result. Some Satellite Cable Companies try to lure consumers by offering them satellite services on a rental basis. But this is not particularly advantageous for the customer as the satellite needs a clear opening in order to receive digital signals.
Moreover, a cable company can offer a limited number of channels. Consequently you may find yourself browsing through all the cable channels without finding one that can hold your interest. Even the digital boxes provided by cable companies are limited in what they can do for you. However, people not interested in digital signals are willing to remain loyal to cable.
What Is Wrong With Cable Companies?
People are slowly moving away from cable. The reasons are obvious enough. If you look at the cost of installation, the service plans, and the sheer selection, Satellite TV companies come out ahead. Most Cable Companies have miles of outdated cables running across localities and the process of converting the entire infrastructure into digital mode will involve huge expenses. Satellite channels, on the other hand do not use such structure and can offer its services at a relatively lower price. Local governmental taxes cannot be levied on national and international satellite TV providers while the cable providers cannot escape such taxes.
The cable service providers do enjoy a certain amount of monopoly in the local area and try to ensure loyalty from its customers. But the infrastructure of the entire set up makes it difficult for the companies to provide the service beyond a certain region. People residing in deregulated areas have no access to cable TV and are opting for the Satellite TV in large numbers.
Most cable TV service providers also double up as Internet Cable Companies. They offer broadband internet connection and claim that their customers can browse the net at lightening speeds. People availing of cable TV or cable phone services often opt for this service as well. However, people are increasingly becoming aware that signing a contract with the provider may not give them an upper hand always. For one, the monthly internet access charges are higher than a dial up connection. The customer is often shocked at the hidden charges that he is expected to pay once he receives the monthly bill. Apart from the fees, the Internet Cable Company is usually a higher security risk. You may need to install a personal firewall in order to protect your computer. Satellite TV companies offering Internet connection at cheaper prices is slowly becoming an increasingly attractive option now. Since Satellite Internet services can be accessed from remote areas as well it has a definite edge over the cable internet service.
